These four do not compete with each other. Buying two of them makes sense; buying all four probably does not.
‘SEO tool’ covers at least four unrelated jobs: making a page technically correct, fixing a storefront’s metadata in bulk, estimating what competitors get, and describing images so they can be found at all. People buy one and are surprised it does not do the others.
Sorting them by job rather than by feature list also sorts them by who should buy. Two of these are platform-specific and irrelevant if you are on the other platform; one is a research subscription with a real price floor; one is a bulk operation you may only need once.
The WordPress answer, and the honest note is that the free version already covers what most sites need. The paid ladder earns its money on rank tracking and content tooling rather than on unlocking basics, which means there is no urgency to upgrade until you actually want those.
Skip it if your SEO needs are basic and the free version covers them — there's no rush to PRO until you need tracking or Content AI
Visit Rank Math →Read our full Rank Math review →The Shopify equivalent: audits, bulk metadata, image alt text and speed fixes from one app. Worth checking which Shopify plan you are on before budgeting, because the same tier costs meaningfully more on Advanced and Plus.
Skip it if you are on Shopify Advanced or Plus, where the same tier costs $30 to $60 a month more, or you need a published per-credit rate before you build a month of AI metadata around it
Visit Tapita SEO Optimizer →Read our full Tapita SEO Optimizer review →Competitive intelligence rather than optimisation — what your competitors’ traffic and channels look like. The entry plan is a serious monthly commitment, so this is for someone who checks often enough to justify it. For a one-off look at a single competitor, the free tier is the right answer.
Skip it if you want a quick check on one competitor — the free tier and public estimates cover that, and the cheapest paid plan is $125 a month for a single user
Visit Similarweb →Read our full Similarweb review →A bulk operation, priced per image and written back into the CMS. Makes sense for a catalogue or an archive. For a few dozen images, write them yourself — you know why each picture is on the page and the model does not.
Skip it if you have a few dozen images. Write those yourself for free and you will describe them better than any model, because you know why each image is on the page. Also skip it if your visuals are diagram-, product- or brand-specific enough that every generated line needs rewriting anyway — in which case the credits buy you a draft you were going to redo

The fastest way to waste money here is to buy a second tool that overlaps the first by eighty percent and differs in the twenty you never use. Write down the job before you shop: fix pages, fix a storefront, research competitors, or describe images. Each has a clear answer and they are different answers.
The second discipline is to leave the free tier alone until it stops being enough. In this category the free versions are unusually capable, and upgrading early buys reporting rather than results.
Only once you want the things the free version deliberately withholds — usually rank tracking and content assistance. The technical basics that actually move indexing are free in every serious plugin.
They are estimates, and directionally useful rather than precise. Treat them as a way to compare channels and trends, not as a number to put in a board deck without a caveat.
It helps images be found and it helps people using screen readers, which is the better reason. Generated text is fine at scale; hand-written is better where the image carries meaning the model cannot see.
