Ava AIAva AI Review (2026)Shopify Phone Agent, Metered by the Minute

E-commerceResearched assessment · by Daniel HaketUpdated 2026-09-12

The monthly price is a minutes allowance, not a flat fee — every minute past the bucket bills at $0.07 to $0.10, so a busy support line can cost far more than the headline.

Best for: Shopify DTC and cash-on-delivery stores with real inbound call volume that want 24/7 phone support and outbound cart-recovery automated, and are comfortable with per-minute economics.

Pricing (2026)

✓ Pricing re-verified 28 Aug 2026

Three paid tiers, no free plan, each with a 7-day trial. Support is $29 a month and includes 100 call minutes, then $0.10 a minute; Recover is $99 a month with 400 minutes and $0.08 over; Scale is $499 a month with 1,500 minutes and $0.07 over. The headline price is really a minutes bucket: a store with real call volume pays the overage, so cost tracks conversation length, not seats.

Estimate your monthly call minutes before you compare — at heavy volume the effective bill can sit well above the tier price. Plans change — always verify the live price on their site.

The catch

And keep the vendor's marketing at arm's length: Ava launched in September 2025 with just six App Store reviews, and the promoted 21–24x ROAS figures are the vendor's own, not independently verified. There is no free plan, only a 7-day trial.

What Ava AI does

AI phone agent for Shopify stores: answers support calls 24/7 — order lookup, edits and refunds mid-call — and runs outbound abandoned-cart recovery calls, with recordings, transcripts and its own business number. Priced by call minutes.

What buyers report about Ava AI

Recurring themes from the buyer-review sites listed at the foot of this page, read in August 2026. We have not run Ava AI ourselves, so this is other buyers' experience rather than ours. We summarise it here because the complaints are usually the part a vendor page leaves out.

What they praise
  • The recurring theme is not saved labour but the impression the phone line creates: a US merchant on the $29 tier writes that the voice sounds realistic and that having a number answered makes the brand look 'legit and big', and a second store says the same about showing a 24/7 number on the site.
  • One store reports the line surfaced demand it did not expect — customers used it more than the owner assumed they would, and the calls turned up questions and concerns that had not come through the existing support channels.
  • A UK store describes callers arriving angry and the agent resolving the issue anyway, and connects that to a lower chargeback rate.
  • Two reviewers name the founder answering the support chat personally as the reason the setup went well.
What they complain about
  • The one negative review is a one-star: no access to customise the agent, and no answer from support. The vendor replied publicly that it had responded within about ninety minutes and emailed as well, with no reply. The review is written after 43 minutes with the app installed, so it says more about the first hour than about the product.
  • The base is six reviews and the longest tenure on it is five months. Nothing in the public record speaks to how the agent behaves over a year, or at volume.

Where the ratings disagree. None of the six reviewers mentions the per-minute overage, which is what actually determines the bill once calls exceed the bundled minutes. The five positives are short and the one detailed negative comes from someone who used the app for under an hour, so the public record is silent precisely where the cost risk sits.

What the money actually buys

The tiers don't unlock features so much as minutes and headroom. Support at $29 is a trial-sized bucket of 100 minutes; Recover at $99 quadruples that and drops the overage rate; Scale at $499 buys 1,500 minutes at the lowest per-minute rate. Voice cloning and the heavier outbound work sit on the upper tiers, but the real variable is talk time. That makes the honest question not 'which tier' but 'how many minutes will my customers actually spend on the phone.' A store that deflects a hundred short order-status calls a month lives comfortably on a low tier; one running long, complex support or aggressive outbound recovery pays overage on top and should price the whole thing per minute.

The app syncs to your catalogue and can look up orders, edit items and process refunds live, which is where the value sits — but it's value you rent by the minute, and the maths only works if the calls it handles are ones a human would otherwise have to.

How to actually use Ava AI

Ava is a Shopify App Store install, so setup starts from apps.shopify.com/ava-ai rather than a separate sign-up. Once added, the app syncs your catalogue automatically and provisions a business phone number, so the agent can answer product and policy questions and pull up orders without you wiring in product data by hand. You set the greeting and the scope of what it may do on a call — answer questions, look up an order, edit items, process a refund — and connect the channels it reports back through: recordings and transcripts, plus SMS and email.

Integrations with Shopify Flow, Shopify Admin, Klaviyo and Omnisend let call outcomes trigger the rest of your stack. What you won't get is a free tier to trial at leisure — every plan is paid after a 7-day window, and because billing is metered by the minute, the meaningful test isn't whether it installs cleanly but how many minutes a representative week of your real calls consumes. The natural comparison is Ringly.io — Ringly and Ava both put an AI voice agent on a Shopify store's phone line; Ava leans into live order actions and outbound recovery with per-minute pricing, while alternatives like Ringly, CallFlows and Fin differ mainly on minute rates and how much they do beyond answering. Compare on expected call minutes, not sticker price.

Frequently asked questions

What does Ava AI cost?

Three paid monthly tiers, no free plan: Support $29 (100 minutes included), Recover $99 (400 minutes) and Scale $499 (1,500 minutes), each with a 7-day trial (read 28 August 2026). Past the included minutes you pay $0.07 to $0.10 a minute, so the real bill depends on call volume.

Is there a free version?

No — only a 7-day trial. Every tier is paid, and pricing is metered by call minutes with per-minute overage, so budget by expected talk time rather than the headline monthly figure.

What can Ava actually do on a call?

It answers inbound support 24/7 — product and policy questions, order lookup, editing items and processing refunds live — and makes outbound abandoned-cart recovery calls with objection handling. It syncs to your Shopify catalogue and provides its own business number, recordings and transcripts.

Is it proven?

Not yet by the numbers. Ava launched in September 2025 and had six App Store reviews (4.7 stars) when we checked. The vendor's 21–24x ROAS claims are its own and unverified, so treat results as promising rather than established.

What should I weigh before buying E-commerce software?

Check your platform and version specifically. Shopify support is close to universal in this category, while WooCommerce, BigCommerce, Magento and headless setups vary a lot, and 'supported' sometimes means a generic API rather than a maintained app. A listing in your own platform's app store, with recent reviews there, is a better signal than the vendor's logo wall.
